Of course, the Tips are why myself and many other Women and Men have started and stayed in this business.  At 22, I was young, very naive and shy.  I was going to Medical School in San Jose and working part-time in a casual dining restaurant.  I had no experience, but had a brief training, by servers who were very busy. Since I had worked in Restaurants before, they figured I could wing it, with out help.

I was very scared about taking orders, remembering items and serving food.  But my fears went away when I kept hearing about the great Tips I was going to make!   I was getting excited about taking that cash home!  I mean, How hard could it be taking customers orders, serving their food and handing them their check?!  Easy!!!  Then I get my tip!!  WooHoo!

Boy,was I Wrong!  I couldn’t understand why my tips were less than 1/2 of the other women.  I mean….I was cuter than the older waitresses!  I smiled at the customers, filled their coffee, brought their ketchup.  And when they asked grumpily for their check, I brought it to them…Fast!  Still it wasn’t good enough!  Five months went by, when I finally had the nerve to ask an older server, who had been there for years, “how is it that I am making less, than1/2 of what you take home in tips?”

She asked me to explain from the introduction to the handing of the check.  Oh, I did….. And I told her..  I even complained that the Regulars don’t even talk to me!!!   I still remember her face after explaining it the details.  Her look of, “Are you kidding?” stared at me for about 5 minutes.  Which is very long when someone is just staring at you, not saying a word.

Finally, she asked me, “Do you know your Customers names?” and walked away. I thought, how am I supposed to know their names?  I’ve only been here for FIVE MONTHS!!!

She came back, after letting me think about it and said, “Anyone, can do this job!  If you sincerely care about People, listen to their needs and wants, give them the service they ask for, they will come back to the Restaurant…and possibly to see you.  Build a Relationship, be yourself, ask questions, make them feel they are the only ones in the restaurant, without smothering them.  As time goes by, it will become easier for you to really listen to your customers and eventually it will help in all of your relationships. The hardest thing for many people to overcome is listening to what people have to say, without interrupting, tuning them out or One-Upping them.”,

I have learned so much from that one conversation 20 years ago.  I have taken that conversation and used it through my life experiences.  It has helped me grow as a person, helped me meet more people and learn about others.  That in turn has helped me realize that their are many people who don’t know how to get out of their current situations.

The 5 Reasons People FAIL in Network Marketing (Truth: They don’t really FAIL, they QUIT)

1. Never Fully Commit: If you aren’t fully committed to success in your business, you are automatically headed for failure. Develop a vision of where you want to go and commit 100% to that vision. Know where you’re starting and know where you’re going.

2. Never Fully Plug In: If you don’t think getting on the conference calls, webinars, and local training events is vitally important, think again. You are on the road to failure. Get your conference call schedule; plug in. Get yourself to the next local event. Start a local event if you have none. Call your upline frequently. Plug into personal development.

3. Spend Time with the Wrong People: The Most Frustrating Path to Failure.

Two main groups of people…

a.) Those IN your business: Whiners vs. Winners … whiners will always find a problem to whine about: the products, the website, their negative uncle, the prices, etc, etc. If you want to fail from frustration, spend your time listening to whiners.
